Baptism at St. John's
The word 'baptise' means to 'plunge' or 'dip', while the word 'christen' means 'to bring to Christ', and by tradition is used of the baptism of babies or small children.
At St. John's we have an 'open' baptism policy, which means that anyone can be baptised if they live in the Parish.
However, because baptism carries with it certain important responsibilities, I will need at least 6 weeks notice before conducting a baptism service. This will allow time to take you through a 5-session DVD course called 'Journeys' (lasting about half an hour each), and a 10 minute DVD called 'First steps'. It will also give you an opportunity to find out how to become a Christian (if you are not already), to ask any questions you may have, and to help you prepare for your big day.
At present, both the date and time of baptism are by mutual agreement. I do not insist that baptism families attend St John's beforehand, although this is to be encouraged.
Services at St John's are as follows:
- Every Sunday
- 10:30 am - Morning Worship Service - Something for everyone
If you would like to discuss baptism further, or for any other reason, do feel free to contact me either on 781090 or by email
